Laser Hair Removal — treatment
Laser — in clinic

Tired of shaving, waxing and managing recurring ingrown hairs? Skinfolio’s physician-supervised laser hair removal treatments provide long-term hair reduction by targeting unwanted hair at the follicle.

Treatments are customized according to your skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness and treatment area. With a recommended series, hair typically grows back progressively finer, lighter and less densely—making everyday maintenance much easier.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses concentrated light energy to reduce unwanted hair. Although commonly called “laser hair removal,” the medically accurate term is permanent hair reduction because some fine hair may remain or regrow over time.

A successful treatment series can significantly reduce the amount, thickness and growth rate of unwanted hair. Any remaining hair is often finer, lighter and easier to manage.

How Laser Hair Removal Works?

Laser energy is attracted to melanin, the pigment within the hair. When the hair absorbs this energy, it converts to heat and damages the structures responsible for producing future hair.

The surrounding skin is protected through careful device selection, customized treatment settings and appropriate cooling.

Laser treatment is most effective when hair is in the active growth—or anagen—phase. Because only a portion of your hair is actively growing at any given time, multiple appointments are needed to target different follicles as they enter this phase.

Customized Technology and Settings

Effective laser hair removal depends on matching the wavelength and settings to the client’s skin tone and hair characteristics. Your Skinfolio provider will assess:

  • Skin tone and recent sun exposure

  • Hair colour and thickness

  • Hair density

  • Treatment area

  • Hormonal influences

  • Previous hair-removal methods

  • History of pigmentation changes or reactions

Protective eyewear is required during treatment, and the device’s cooling system helps protect the skin and improve comfort.

What Happens During Treatment?

The treatment area is cleansed, and any remaining long hair may be trimmed. Protective eyewear is provided before the laser handpiece is passed systematically over the selected area.

Each pulse delivers light energy to multiple follicles. You may notice a brief snapping sensation, warmth or the smell of singed hair. This is expected as the laser interacts with pigment in the hair shaft.

Appointments can take approximately 10 minutes for a small facial area or up to 45–60 minutes for larger body areas.

FAQ

Everything you need to know.

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction, not complete removal. Most clients see 70-90% reduction after completing their treatment series. Some fine or light hairs may persist, and occasional maintenance sessions can address any regrowth.

The laser targets pigment in the hair and converts light energy into heat. This damages the follicle’s ability to produce future hair.

Most clients experience brief warmth or a sensation similar to an elastic band snap. Sensitive and hair-dense areas may feel more intense.

Treated hair generally begins shedding within 1–3 weeks. Do not pull it out; allow it to release naturally.

Yes. Shaving is the recommended hair-removal method between sessions because it leaves the follicle beneath the skin available for treatment.

Potentially, but suitability depends on the exact laser wavelength and the provider’s ability to customize settings safely. A consultation is especially important for deeper skin tones.

Results are limited because blonde, red, grey and white hair contain little melanin. The laser may not be able to recognize these hairs effectively.

Reducing the number and thickness of hairs may help decrease recurring ingrown hairs and shaving-related irritation.

Yes. Common facial areas include the upper lip, chin, sideburns and jawline. Facial hair affected by hormones may require additional maintenance.

No. Recently tanned skin can increase the risk of burns and pigment changes. Your appointment may need to be postponed.

Laser hair removal is generally postponed during pregnancy due to limited safety data.

Hair follicles grow at different times. Some hairs may not have been in the active growth phase during earlier sessions, while hormonal influences can stimulate new growth.
